Congratulations on your recent bundle of joy! If you’re reading this, I’m sure you’ve just had a baby or are about to pop. Newborns are the best for capturing all the little things you don’t want to forget as they grow older. Those little wrinkles, their tiny toes, and even their long finger nails. We’re going to talk about what’s important to you, and the feelings you want captured. Then I’ll take over the rest.

Here’s what a typical newborn session looks like with me when you come over to my Idaho Falls studio! We talk for months beforehand. No, seriously. I’m going to be one of the first people to know about your little bundle of joy to get the BEST pictures when they’re brand new and fresh. Sessions normally take 2-3 hours depending on baby.

Best time to schedule? Remember when I said I would be one of the first people to know about your baby? It’s true, we’ll usually book your session while you’re still pregnant. I only take on a few clients every month to ensure I’m able to spend the time needed to get those precious pictures of your little one. Most of my clients secure their session during their second trimester. We’ll set a date for pictures between 4-16 days old.

Props? In my Idaho Falls studio, I’ve got everything. I mean everything for perfect newborn pictures. I have swaddles, headbands, outfits, pillows, literally everything! If there’s a special family heirloom you want to include make sure to bring that and we’ll work it in the shots. I schedule your session for multiple hours to ensure we get the perfect poses and various props for a variety of shots.

Another super common question, who should attend newborn sessions? Should Grandma come? What about Aunts? While it sounds like fun to have the whole family there, I suggest and encourage only bring those who will be in the photos with you. It can get overwhelming if there are too many people there, and keeping the number down as low as possible helps keep things relaxed and mellow for the baby. Siblings going to be in the pictures? No problem, have Grandma bring them and take them out for ice cream or a treat once their portions of photos are done. I don’t have tons for them to do in my studio and don’t want them to be bored waiting. We’ll get them in and out and off to their next adventure!

I like to suggest newborn photos get done as soon as possible. A few days after their born is ideal for posing. Beyond that they are passed the ‘new’ stage, and are going to be a little harder to work with. Feel like you missed out on the ‘new’ stage? Don’t worry! Any pictures you get done will be beautiful and special, regardless of the age. We will work together to get perfect images of your little one. Premature babies are a little bit different and have more time, I base their session on their actual due date.

Now, let’s get down to the nitty gritty. How many photos should you expect, and what’s the turnaround time? I do my best to make sure you get those photos back quickly to share with all your friends and family. You should receive the proof gallery from me in a week, and then 2-3 weeks later your images will be ready to go! The amount of photos depends on the length of the session, but for a 2-3 hour newborn session, we can generally get almost 30 images! We get tons of time to pose your baby and capture all those special little details.

What about during Coronavirus? Is it safe? We have taken extra safety precautions and measures to ensure you and your child’s safety. Masks are worn and there is extensive cleaning done after each session. We schedule sessions 48 hours in between to ensure proper time to launder props, and clean. Clients are to remove shoes and wash hands before session begins as an added safety precaution.

Is it safe for my baby to be posed? As a professional and a mother myself, I take your baby’s safety seriously. I never put them at risk, and have been trained to pose them properly and safely. The props and environments chosen for photos are selected with safety as top priority. I also am up to date with all vaccines!
