Skip the Hospital Pictures, Book a Newborn Session Instead!

Picture this, you’ve just had the night of your life. Working so hard to breathe through contractions, and then it was finally the moment for your little bundle of joy to arrive. Now, your life is changing, and you’re getting adjusted to a newborn schedule, and a photographer comes in. They’re asking if you want newborn photos taken, and you’re exhausted, can’t think straight. So, you say yes.

She is there for a few minutes, posing your newborn, taking pictures, then drops the bomb. For your 10 pictures it’s going to be hundreds of dollars. Here’s why skipping those hospital photos can totally be skipped, and what you should do instead.

Don’t get me wrong, I love hospital photographers, and how special those fresh 48 pictures are. However, sometimes the price can be a little steep for some young parents. Instead of getting those hospital photos done, plan for a newborn session in my Idaho Falls studio.

Here’s why, unlike hospital fresh 48 photos, my newborn sessions are 2-3 hours long. I book my newborn sessions for a few hours to allow time for the babies to be babies! They’re going to get hungry, or grumpy, having a longer period of time to work with them allows for that to happen. That cushion time is key to get a number of poses with different props.

While the images may not be fresh 48’s I like to get my newborns in while they’re 4-16 days old. This gives mom a little bit of time to recover and feel human again, but also time to figure out how to be a mom! I want the parents, especially mom to feel beautiful in the newborn pictures she is apart of. Wait a few days, then let’s book a session.

Lastly, you’ll be able to bring your own special props for photos. More often than not, fresh 48’s are more about capturing the details, which we’ll do during our newborn session too, but we get to add fun family heirlooms, posing, and cute outfits. During a newborn session with me, I open my collection of newborn props, outfits, backdrops to you. We can use anything in my collection, which means, tons of different images of your sweet angel baby to share with family and friends.
