Aimee’s New Mom Must Haves
Being a new mom can be incredibly overwhelming, but also is such a special time in your life. I remember telling friends and family we were expecting years ago with my oldest, and all the advice comes flowing in. It’s so hard to know what advice to take, and what advice is just plum silly. I’ve decided instead of providing advice, I’m going to give my list of new mom must haves. These are the things that people tell you about, but gets lost in the sea of other suggestions and recommendations.
The items on my list are tried and true, and saved my life when I had a newborn! Nothing prepares you for being a parent like having a newborn, it’s a crazy but beautiful ride.
My first item is from a company that is a newer kid on the block but has proven themselves with their innovation and making mom life a little bit easier. FridaBaby’s NoseFrida. FridaBaby is a new company that has all kinds of incredible inventions that I know are going to do amazing things for all my new mamas out there. The NoseFrida is great for colds, newborn sniffles, and helping get the job done quick!
It’s not the most glamorous job but this tool is a lifesaver and blows those old school nose suckers out of the water. This helps the less fun part of parenting end quickly!
Second on my list, swaddles. This may seem incredibly obvious, but the swaddles I’m recommending are different. They have velcro straps to make those late night wake up calls, that much quicker. Simply undo the velcro on baby, change the diaper, or finish a quick feeding, velcro back up and done. A perfectly safe and snug swaddle to keep your newborn snug as a bug while they sleep.
Next up, the Boppy pillow is a lifesaver when adjusting to breastfeeding a newborn. It can be exhausting and frustrating, but the boppy is a game changer. It’s also able to transition when baby grows to help prop them up and keep them seated safely. It’s also a great tummy time tool. It helps prop baby up and keeps them in a slightly more comfortable position (this shouldn’t be replaced with traditional tummy time on a flat surface) The Boppy pillow has a variety of beautiful covers to keep clean and if there’s a mess, a simple zip will take care of that.
I use a Boppy pillow every day in my business. During sessions we use the Boppy to ensure our newborns are positioned safely and securely while we snap their pretty pictures. It’s a great way to keep them in place, safe and comfortable during their newborn session.
Bamboobies reusable nursing pads have incredible reviews and are a great alternative to those disposable ones. Not only will you be able to save a little bit of money, they are softer than the disposables because they are a liquid absorbing fabric. They are great overnight during the newborn stages when your body is still trying to regulate production, and are great as baby continues to grow.
Lastly, gripe water. I can’t imagine not having this on hand during those first few months. As a new parent you’re still trying to get in the swing of things, and a crying baby is hard to translate. You are still deciphering the difference between baby’s hungry cry and tired cry. Having gripe water on hand was crucial for those late nights where I cried just as much as the baby did.
I hope this list was helpful during your last few days before baby makes their grand debut! Stock up on the essentials and prepare for the best days of your life ahead. It’s hard, and will definitely push you, but those newborn days are some of the most special days of my life.
